Sarah Brill grew up in Perth and began writing at the age of 15. She initially focused on playwriting but also wrote for film and radio.
Sarah was a participant in State and National Young Playwrights Workshops for many years and attended the National Playwrights Workshop in 1994 with her play Who the Fuck is Erica Price. In 1991 her short film David Blows Up screened at the Melbourne Film Festival. Who the Fuck is Erica Price was first performed in 1996 and is still occasionally performed today. In 1998 Sarah worked as a writer in residence with Salamanca Theatre Company in the production of Reality Check and in 2000 wrote a commissioned play for them entitled Super Serious. Sarah’s radio plays B.O.R.E.D (1997) and See (2001) have aired on ABC’s Radio National.
After the birth of her children Sarah became interested in sustainability and permaculture. She started an edible gardening business and worked in homes, schools, charities and businesses, designing and maintaining edible gardens. In 2017 she completed a Masters of Sustainable Built Environment.
Sarah currently works full time for a local government council where her focus is on diverting food waste from landfill.
Her first novel, Glory, which dealt with anorexia, was published by Spinifex Press in 2002. Her second novel, Symphony for the Man, was published in 2020, also by Spinifex Press.
Sarah lives in Sydney with her partner and three sons.
